Your layout determines how many cabinet runs the calculator considers.
2. Enter Your Available Space
Enter the length of each wall where cabinets could be installed.
For an L-shaped kitchen, for example, you can enter the length of the main wall and the second wall.
For a U-shaped kitchen, enter all three cabinet runs.
3. Select Cabinet Width
Choose a common cabinet width or enter a custom width.
Common options include:
12″, 15″, 18″, 21″, 24″, 30″, 33″, and 36″.
The calculator uses your selected width to estimate how many cabinets can fit within the available space.
4. Add an Island
If your kitchen includes an island, select “Include an island” and enter its length and cabinet depth.

How Many Kitchen Cabinets Do I Need?
The number of cabinets you need depends primarily on your available wall space and the width of the cabinets you choose.
For example, if you have a 12-foot cabinet run and use 36-inch cabinets:
12 feet = 144 inches
144 ÷ 36 = 4 cabinets
So approximately four 36-inch cabinets can fit within 12 feet of cabinet space before accounting for fillers, appliances, corners, and other layout requirements.
